Catechism classes have never been as much fun - or as hilarious - as when they are led by the ‘Sister’ in the international hit comedy, “Late Nite Catechism.” This uproarious piece of theatre takes audience members back - sometimes nostalgically, sometimes fearfully - to the children they once were. The irrepressible Sister (played by actress Denise Fennel) teaches an adult catechism class to a roomful of “students” (the audience). As the play unfolds, Sister goes from a benevolent instructor, rewarding the “students” for correct answers, to an authoritative drill sergeant. These attitude shifts are bound to strike a resonant chord with anyone who survived the ups and downs of going to school with an omniscient authoritarian at the helm.

Actress Denise Marie Christina Fennell has played “Sister” for many years. She is incredibly talented at leading an interrogative, comedic interactive evening “teaching” her audience about values and viewpoints as a Catholic nun. Every performance is uniquely shaped by who is in the audience as “Sister” tackles big topics in an intense, hysterical, yet lovable way. “Sister” makes fun of everyone equally - including her own religion - and she emphasizes that no judgment will be allowed in her space, (outside of her own, of course). The program is accepting and warm to people of all faiths and designed to bring every audience member - no matter their viewpoint - closer together.

The New York Times declared “Late Nite Catechism” speaks to an audience much broader than the membership of any one church.” The Catholic Register (Toronto) says, “The show appeals to Catholics and non-Catholics alike since ‘Sister’ clearly explains religious references in lighthearted ways while maintaining a serious tone that isn’t too preachy and far from being saccharine.”

NOTE: Florida Rep is offering “Late Night Catechism” as a special summer production. This play is not part of any subscription package.
